THAT INCLUDES GRANTS MADE THROUGH FUNDING COLLABORATIVES IN WHICH THE TRUST PARTICIPATES. FOLLOWING ARE SOME HIGHLIGHTS OF HOW THE YEAR'S GRANT MAKING EMBRACED THE TRUST'S AIM TO BE A CHANGEMAKER, ADDRESSED THE PANDEMIC, AND ADVANCED ITS STRATEGIC PRIORITIES TO GROW HOUSEHOLD WEALTH, CATALYZE NEIGHBORHOOD INVESTMENT, BUILD COLLECTIVE POWER, AND ADDRESS CRITICAL NEEDS. GROWING HOUSEHOLD WEALTH THROUGH THIS STRATEGY, THE TRUST AIMS TO INCREASE THE SHARE IN ECONOMIC PROSPERITY FOR BLACK AND LATINX INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES. RECIPIENTS OF THE PROTECTING & ADVANCING EQUITABLE HOMEOWNERSHIP GRANTS ARE COLLABORATING WITH ONE ANOTHER AND LAST YEAR'S GRANTEES TO EXAMINE HOMEOWNERSHIP WORK IN CHICAGO AND NATIONWIDE, SHARE BEST PRACTICES, AND DEVELOP RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PHILANTHROPIC INVESTMENTS. MANY OF THE ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS COHORT WORKED VERY HARD TO STEM THE FLOW OF FORECLOSURES FOLLOWING THE 2008 RECESSION. THE TRUST HAS BEEN SUPPORTING THEIR EFFORTS AS A COHORT TO IDENTIFY WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE NEXT IN TERMS OF INCREASING AFFORDABLE HOUSING, STOPPING FORECLOSURES, AND SUPPORTING HOMEOWNERSHIP IN COMMUNITIES OF COLOR. THE FUND FOR EQUITABLE BUSINESS GROWTH, A FUNDING COLLABORATIVE THAT INCLUDES THE TRUST, MADE 20 GRANTS WORTH MORE THAN $22 MILLION TO BUSINESS SUPPORT ORGANIZATIONS. GRANT RECIPIENTS ARE ENGAGED IN PARTNERSHIPS THAT IMPROVE AND EXPAND ACCESS TO CAPITAL, SPECIALIZED BUSINESS CONSULTATION SERVICES, AND OTHER SUPPORTS FOR BLACK AND LATINX ENTREPRENEURS IN THE CHICAGO REGION. THE TRUST ALSO MADE A $175,000 GRANT TO THE SOUTHLAND DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY, THROUGH THE FUND FOR EQUITABLE BUSINESS GROWTH, TO SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESSES IN THE REGION'S SOUTH SUBURBS. TOGETHER WITH KINSHIP FOUNDATION, THROUGH THE SEARLE FUNDS AT THE CHICAGO COMMUNITY TRUST, THE TRUST ALSO PROVIDED 31 GRANTS TOTALING $3.85 MILLION THROUGH BRIDGES TO BRIGHTER FUTURES, WHICH HELPS CREATE EQUITABLE ACCESS TO GOOD JOBS AND CONTINUED CAREER DEVELOPMENT. THESE GRANTS ARE HELPING BLACK, LATINX AND LOW-INCOME CHICAGOANS WHO HAVE EARNED A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR GED TAKE THE NEXT STEP IN THEIR CAREER DEVELOPMENT. THE FLEXIBLE FUNDING PROGRAM, WHICH PROVIDES FLEXIBLE DOLLARS TO BLACK AND LATINX-LED COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATIONS, MADE 28 GENERAL OPERATING AND THREE CAPACITY BUILDING GRANTS TOTALING MORE THAN $1 MILLION. ADVOCATING FOR POLICY CHANGE IN 2020, FOR THE FIRST TIME, THE TRUST ESTABLISHED ITS OWN POLICY AGENDA FOCUSED ON CLOSING THE WEALTH GAP WHILE SETTING NEAR-TERM, HIGH-IMPACT PRIORITIES FOR EQUITABLE ECONOMIC RECOVERY. IN FY2021, THE TRUST MADE SIX GRANTS TOTALING $455,000 TO SUPPORT POLICY ADVOCACY. THAT INCLUDES INAUGURAL GRANTS THROUGH THE OPEN CALL FOR IDEAS - ADVANCING POLICY. FOR EXAMPLE, THE TRUST MADE A THREE-YEAR FUNDING COMMITMENT OF $350,000 ANNUALLY TO THE WIEBOLDT FOUNDATION'S CAPACITY BUILDING ORGANIZING COHORT TO ALLOW COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS TO ADDRESS THE CHALLENGES IN THEIR COMMUNITIES WHILE ALSO BUILDING LASTING POWER. THE NEW INITIATIVE IS FOCUSED ON PROVIDING ESSENTIAL RESOURCES TO ENHANCE THE CIVIC ENGAGEMENT INFRASTRUCTURE AND CAPACITY OF A COHORT OF GRASSROOTS ORGANIZATIONS TO ACT AROUND THE NEEDS OF BOYS AND YOUNG MEN OF COLOR. ADDITIONAL GRANTS THE TRUST WAS THE PHILANTHROPIC PARTNER ADMINISTERING AND DISTRIBUTING GRANTS THROUGH THE HEALING ILLINOIS FUND, A STATEWIDE RACIAL HEALING INITIATIVE LED BY THE ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN, WHICH PROVIDED SOME $4.5 MILLION VIA 206 GRANTS TO ORGANIZATIONS BEGINNING OR CONTINUING RACIAL HEALING AND ANTI-RACISM WORK IN ILLINOIS. THE COALITIONS FOR EQUITY IN WEALTH POLICY INITIATIVE MADE 20 GRANTS TOTALING $2.13 MILLION. THAT INCLUDES $1.245 MILLION IN RENEWAL GRANTS TO ORGANIZATIONS FUNDED IN 2020.BY SUPPORTING GROUPS OF CHANGEMAKERS WORKING TO SHAPE POLICIES THAT WILL IMPROVE THE LIVES OF BLACK AND LATINX RESIDENTS, THESE GRANTS CUT ACROSS THE TRUST'S ADVOCATING FOR POLICY CHANGE, GROWING HOUSEHOLD WEALTH, AND CATALYZING NEIGHBORHOOD INVESTMENTS STRATEGIES. WE RISE TOGETHER: FOR AN EQUITABLE & JUST RECOVERY IS A COALITION OF PUBLIC AND PRIVATE FUNDERS AND COMMUNITIES ACCELERATING EQUITY IN THE CHICAGO REGION'S ECONOMIC RECOVERY SO EVERYONE WHO LIVES HERE CAN REACH OUR FULL POTENTIAL.
